Pottery Wheel-throwing Classes - starting Thur, 15 July 2021
If you've ever wanted to try making some pottery on the wheel, this is the time with our 4-week beginner pottery wheel-throwing classes. Each class is 2.5 hours and no experience is required.
Your tutor will be David Collins - a highly-skilled Australian potter, who produces finely crafted stoneware, functional wares and ceramics. David Collins’ pottery has strong traditional Japanese influences and an earthy organic aesthetic. His teaching experience is invaluable. Pictured are some of David's student work, as well as some of his own gorgeous big pots.
David will demonstrate how to throw some simple shapes on the pottery wheel, including clay preparation, centring clay on the wheel and shaping your pot. You'll also learn to trim and turn your best pots, have them bisque fired, pieces ready for glazing and their final firing, to pick up later.
This class is for anyone 12 years or older and there will only be 5 students per class, so you'll get the attention you need. You can even book as a family. Each person attending (child or adult) will need to pay the class fee.
Students need to bring an old shirt, an apron, large plastic bags and wear closed-in shoes. We recommend relaxed fit pants/trousers for wheel throwing. Good idea to also tie back long hair, remove rings, watches and scarves.
