Porcelain Clay Homewares Course (4 weeks)
Discover the joy of hand building with porcelain, one of the most smooth, white and deliciously tactile clays to work with. Porcelain clay is so smooth, that it will pick up the pattern of almost anything you press into it, even the texture from a feather.
Join this 4-week course to discover the secrets of working with porcelain and make something you can use and enjoy at home. You can even bring along something treasured from your home, like a piece of lace, or a flower from your garden to press it into the clay. You’ll create a texture and learn how to turn it into a bowl, or plate to enjoy forever.
Your instructor is Romanda Newman, @romandaceramics, and has been hand building with porcelain for over 10 years. She specialises in pressing native flowers onto porcelain clay, making functional and sculptural ceramics. Romanda has been exhibited and sold work throughout the country.
Romanda will teach you the techniques to make beautiful bowls, plates, cups and vases just with your hands, plaster moulds, and a few basic tools. You’ll also be shown how to decorate your pieces with coloured underglazes. Your finished, kiln-fired pottery will be food-safe and microwave, oven & dishwasher-safe.
You will have the opportunity to make up to 6 finished pieces. Additional pieces can be finished for $12 per piece. After the 4 weeks, we’ll do the final glaze firing to 1260 degrees, so you can collect your pieces 2-3 weeks later.
No experience is required. This course is limited to 6 students only. Bring a friend or come on your own and meet some new people.
You must be available on the scheduled days to complete the course.
