Making your own pottery but don't have access to a kiln? Glaze Galleria offers a pottery firing service in Drummoyne, Sydney's Inner West, open to anyone working in clay, whether you're a student, a home potter, or a practising ceramic artist.

We fire stoneware to 1250 degrees in an electric kiln (oxidation), with bisque firing to 980 degrees. You can drop off your greenware for a bisque firing, then return to the studio to apply your own glazes ready for the final glaze firing. We'll contact you when your pieces are ready to collect.

Pricing

Firing is charged at $22.00 per kilo (raw dry weight) and includes one bisque firing and one glaze firing, with a minimum charge of $50, payable in advance. Small items such as jewellery or beads are charged at $60 per shelf.

Optional extras:

  • Studio use for glazing between firings: $20.00 per hour (minimum $20)
  • Studio glazes: from $5 per dip, $10 for paint-on glazes
  • Kiwi Underglazes available for purchase: $15.95 per 100ml bottle
  • Earthenware and mid-fire clay firings (full load): from $160 for both firings, by special arrangement

Please note: if glaze drips from your pieces onto a kiln shelf, a minimum charge of $25 per drip applies to cover grinding. Severe shelf damage will be charged at replacement cost.

Before you drop off, please note:

  • Pieces must be completely dry (not cold to touch)
  • Your name must be carved into each piece
  • We only accept commercially available clays (no home-sourced clay, BRT or paper clays)
  • Hollow work must be pierced to allow steam to escape and must not contain paper
  • If you use drippy glazes, please bring your own setters; these can be made in the studio from Special K clay with kiln wash available on request
  • Small items such as beads and jewellery will incur additional handling fees
  • We cannot store boxes or packing materials between firings
  • We take every care but cannot be held responsible for breakages or misfirings

Turnaround time: approximately 2 to 3 weeks, subject to seasonal demand.
