If you've done a few pottery wheel courses in Sydney and want to keep refining your skills, this 6-week pottery wheel course is for you
This course is designed for students who are very comfortable centring clay up to 1 kilo in weight, and who may have specific projects in mind or want to explore particular skills. Join us for 2.5 hours each week, on the same day and time, over 6 consecutive weeks at our pottery studio in Sydney's Inner West, Drummoyne.
What you'll do
Demonstration
Your tutor will demonstrate how to develop your throwing skills to make bowls, plates and larger pieces, including throwing off the hump, managing larger amounts of clay on the wheel and throwing lidded vessels or donuts.
Get hands-on and relax
Settle in and get hands-on at the wheel each week, refining your skills and working towards your own projects. It's a great way to unwind while challenging yourself creatively.
Help at hand
With a maximum of 6 students per course, you'll get plenty of one-on-one guidance from your tutor as you tackle more advanced techniques.
The results
You'll trim and turn your best pots, have them bisque-fired and then glaze and decorate them yourself, ready for their final firing. You'll be able to fire your best 10 pieces, using your choice from our studio glazes or your own.
You take your pottery through every step
This course is hands-on from start to finish. You'll throw, trim and glaze your own pieces yourself, with guidance from your tutor along the way. The only step we take care of is loading your pieces into the kiln for firing.
What you'll get
- 6 weekly 2.5 hour sessions in our Drummoyne studio
- Use of studio tools and 10 kilos of stoneware clay
- Guidance from an experienced tutor at every step, from throwing to glazing
- Your best 10 pieces, bisque-fired, glazed by you (from studio glazes or your own) and fired again
- Option to purchase additional clay from $25 a bag, and your own pottery tools if you'd like
Knowledge required
You should already know how to centre clay on the pottery wheel. This course is designed to build on your existing skills and take them further.
What to bring
- A cloth apron
- An old bath towel
- Closed-in shoes
- Relaxed-fit pants or trousers, recommended for wheel throwing

- You must be available for all scheduled days and times, as availability for makeup sessions is limited. Fees apply for any makeup classes
