Beginner Wheel Throwing Course (4 weeks)
If you've ever wanted to try making some pottery on the wheel, this is the time with our 4-week beginners' pottery wheel-throwing course. Each class runs for 2 hours. We have both morning and evening sessions available and you don’t need any experience. We do also welcome people who've had a little experience too.
Your tutor will demonstrate how to throw some simple shapes on the pottery wheel, including clay preparation, centring clay on the wheel and shaping your pot. You'll also learn to trim and turn your best pots and have them bisque-fired, so you can glaze them, ready for their final firing, to pick up later.
This class is for anyone 12 years or older and will be limited to a maximum of 6 students per class, so you'll get the attention you need.
You'll be able to use studio tools and 6 kilos of stoneware clay to make your pieces and be able to fire your best 6 pieces. You can purchase more clay at $25 a bag. Additional fees apply if you'd like your own pottery tool starter kit.
Students just need to bring an old shirt/or an apron, an old towel and wear closed-in shoes. We recommend relaxed-fit pants/trousers for wheel throwing.
Sustainability is very important to us, so all unfired clay is reused and we recycle most of our water too.
You'll end up with functional food-safe, microwave/dishwasher/oven-usable ceramics.
You must be available on the scheduled days and times, as it's difficult to reschedule classes. Fees will apply for any makeup classes. A minimum of 3 participants is required for the course to go ahead.
